Radiologists

There are 6 radiologists in the Harrogate Diagnostic Imaging Group, who are all fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and are all fellows of the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR).  We all work at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.  We all have general radiology experience as well as our sub-speciality interests enabling us to offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional radiology services.


Dr Caroline Costello MA (Cantab) MB BChir; FRCS; FRCR.

Qualified - 1996 - Cambridge Medical School

2001-2006 - Radiology Training Scheme, Bristol
2006-2007 - Specialist Breast Radiology Fellowship, Leeds
2008 - Consultant Radiologist, Harrogate

Dr Roderick R Mawhinney  Mb ChB FRCR

Qualified - 1977- Bristol University Medical School


1980-1987 - Trained in radiology, Nottingham
1987- Consultant Radiologist, Harrogate

Rod Mawhinney was involved in the early years of MRI as lecturer in Radiology at Nottingham University. His interests now are in Cross Sectional Imaging with particular interests  in Chest, Urological and Head and Neck radiology.

Hilary Moss trained in general medicine and then in radiology in Addenbrookes' and Papworth Hospitals, Cambridge. In 1998 she moved to Leeds and was appointed
Consultant Radiologist and Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in 1999, specialising in thoracic and oncological radiology. In 2005 Dr Moss moved
to Harrogate.Specialist interests - cross sectional radiology and ultrasound with a particular interest in chest, gynaecological and oncological imaging.

Dr David Sapherson MRCP FRCR

David Sapherson became a Consultant in 1990 in Bradford, specialising in paediatrics and musculoskeletal radiology.  In 2002, David moved to Harrogate where he undertook training in breast radiology as a supplementary interest.

Anthony Coral has been involved in Musculoskeletal Imaging since 1987 when he first attended the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital as a Senior Registrar. As this involves high resolution ultrasound, he has developed its use in investigation of the venous system, particularly varicose veins,  and the scanning of lesions of soft tissue, such as tumours.

Dr David Scullion MBBS, MRCP, FRCR

Consultant Radiologist - 1997- Harrogate Foundation Trust

David Scullion trained in radiology at St Mary's Hospital London during which he spent a year in Vancouver undertaking a radiology fellowship in gastrointestinal imaging and intervention. He has been a full time NHS Consultant radiologist for 11 years. His main radiological interests are in all forms of gastrointestinal imaging, head and neck radiology and interventional radiology (both vascular and non-vascular). He is a member of the Royal College of Radiologists, British Society of Interventional Radiology and Radiological Society of North America.
